Team members in organizations that are not used to active warming devices or to blood transfusion may forget to prime the Compact Disposable Unit (CDU) or may think that the system limits the flow of blood (while in fact the viscosity of the blood is causing it).
To address the priming issue, we recommend to train users to view the CDU as a line extension and prime the entire setup after connecting the CDU. To address the flow issue, a pressure bag or other infusion method – e.g., Push-Pull, Hand Pump, or LifeFlow™ – should be considered.
Separately, we also advise users to ensure that the CDU is properly positioned when connecting it to the device or to an Extension Cable. The protruding arrows on the CDU should indicate proper positioning in low-light and no-light operating environments. In the case of the Warrior AC Station configuration, the protruding arrows on the CDU should be aligned with the protruding arrows on the connector’s cable (or Extension Cable).
